Apply a Lemon & Sugar Solution
-
Once your mehndi has dried, apply a lemon juice & sugar solution with cotton wool or cotton pads. This solution acts as a sealant which allows the mehndi to stick to the skin for longer and avoids the mehndi crumbling off.
-
Try not to use too much solution to drench your skin as you don't want the mehndi to start sliding off your skin. The right amount will make the mehndi glisten and sparkle (I love this stage!)
No Cling Film or Carrier Bags

-
Absolutely DO NOT wrap cling film or carrier bags whilst you have mehndi on your hands
-
no matter who tells you that they did it back in the day, you shouldn't do it!
-
-
Trapping the mehndi between the warmth of your skin and a plastic wrap, will make the intricate designs to melt and blur. This will contain the heat and means you may not see the intricate designs that Gurps has probably spent hours doing on your arms/hands/feet!
-
Once the mehndi melts and stains, blurred designs or blobs will appear and unfortunately, there is not much Gurps can do at this stage to reverse this.
Removing the Dried Mehndi Paste

-
Natural mehndi stains the top few layers of your skin. Try to avoid any contact with water on your mehndi stains for the first 8 hours as this can impact the top layer of your stain.
-
To help remove, warm up some oil (Mustard/Coconut/any preferred oil - not too hot!) and use this to massage and rub off the mehndi. The warmth from the oil should help the mehndi to slide off the skin.
-
This also helps to reduce the stickiness on your skin from the lemon sugar solution. Using enough oil will protect the top layer of your skin and create a barrier.
Keep Warm & Moisturised

-
Once you have removed the mehndi, it's good to keep the stain warm and moisturised! This creates a barrier on the outer layer of your skin and helps to protect and preserve your mehndi stain in the lead up to your main event. You can use things like:
-
Vicks
-
Vaseline
-
Moisturising creams & lotions
-
Any oils
-
-
You can also use washing up gloves when handling water to avoid contact with water as much as possible.
